Grade 6 to Year 7 Student Enrolment Information

Braybrook College runs Transition Days in Term 1 and 2, whereby local Grade 5 and 6 primary students are invited to experience a day in the life of a secondary student.  During the day the primary school students undertake tours of the college, participate in a variety of lessons around the school, and finish the day with a music concert performed by Braybrook College students.  It is a good, positive introduction to secondary school life, and showcases Braybrook College as a potential destination for secondary schooling.

Following on from these Transition Days, a Community Information Evening is held, where parents and prospective students are provided with information on the Braybrook College philosophy, direction, policies, curriculum, facilities, uniform and extra-curricular activities.  Parents are given tours by students, and are invited to ask questions.  Additionally, parents are very welcome to visit the school for a tour during the daytime whilst the College is operating (appointment is required).

In Term 1, primary schools issue an ‘Application for Enrolment, Year 7’ form to Grade 6 parents.  Families return this form to primary schools, with secondary school preferences, in Term 2.  By mid-Term 3, Braybrook College sends out an enrolment package to families.  Included in this package is the official Braybrook College ‘Confidential Enrolment Form’ that needs to be filled in and returned in order to confirm the child’s place at the College.

In Term 4, the College holds a Year 7 Parent Information Evening for the families of students who will be attending Braybrook the following year.  Families are given the opportunity to meet key personnel and are provided with a clear outline of college expectations.

In early December, the state has a Year 7 Orientation Day.  All students attending Year 7 in the following year get the opportunity to experience the programs of their new school.  At Braybrook College we endeavour to ensure that students are placed in a class that they will remain in after the summer break.  Therefore, it is imperative that Literacy testing is conducted prior to Orientation Day to be factored into planning for the following year, so that every child’s needs can be best met.

The College is proud to offer a select entry Advanced Class in each level from Year  7 -10.  This is known as SEEK (Select Entry for Enrichment and Knowledge). Application and suitability details can be obtained by contacting Sue Campbell on 9312 2900.

In addition, Braybrook College offers scholarships at Year 7 in the areas of Academic Achievement, Leadership, Sport and Music/Performing Arts.  Successful recipients receive $500.00 to go towards school expenses.  Scholarship applications are due in Term 2 of the Grade 6 year.
